Comparison of Anomalous and Galactic Cosmic-Ray Oxygen at 1 au during 1997–2020

چکیده

Using quiet-time measurements of element oxygen within the energy range 7.3--237.9 MeV nuc$^{-1}$ from ACE spacecraft at 1 au, we compare spectra and intensities anomalous Galactic cosmic rays (ACRs GCRs, respectively) during 1997--2020. Our analysis shows that transition ACR-dominated spectrum to GCR-dominated occurs energies $\sim$15 $\sim$35 nuc$^{-1}$, $E_t$ is found be well anticorrelated with varying solar activity. This first study ACR-GCR dependence on cycle variation. At below $E_t$, index power-law ($\gamma_1$) ranges -2.0 -0.5, whereas has a ($\gamma_2$) changing 0.3 0.8 ranging 237.9 nuc$^{-1}$. Both $\gamma_1$ $\gamma_2$ are positively correlated In addition, 24/25 minimum period, peak GCR intensity observed by about 8\% above its 2009 value, setting new record since space age, while ACR almost similar previous two cycles same pattern magnetic polarity, indicating different modulation mechanism between ACRs GCRs.

The Unusual Behavior of Anomalous and Galactic Cosmic Ray Intensities at 1 AU During the Present Solar Minimum

Since the early 1970’s, anomalous cosmic ray (ACR) intensities at 1 AU at solar minimum have generally tracked the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) intensities as measured by neutron monitors. Throughout the current A 0 cycle, however, the ACR intensities are a factor of 3–4 lower than expected from scaling neutron monitor rates; a similar discrepancy seems to have been present during the last A 0 per...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Changing anomalous cosmic ray oxygen radial intensity gradients between 1 AU and Voyager with the return to solar minimum

Using the Solar Isotope Spectrometer (SIS) on NASA’s ACE spacecraft, we have measured the intensities of anomalous cosmic rays (ACRs) near 1 AU down to energies of 10 MeV/nucleon since August 1997. As solar minimum modulation conditions return, ACR intensities at 1 AU are recovering, but are significantly lower relative to galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) than they were during the intensity decline ...

Sh 6.4-3 Radial and Latitudinal Gradients of Anomalous Cosmic-ray Oxygen and Helium and Galactic Cosmic Rays in the Outer Heliosphere

We have used measurements from instruments on Voyagers 1 and 2 and Pioneer 10 to derive simultaneous latitudinal and radial gradients of anomalous cosmic-ray helium and oxygen and galactic cosmic rays during the latter part of 1986. We find that the negative latitudinal gradients that first appeared in 1985 when Voyager 1 reached heliolatitudes in excess of the current sheet continue to be obse...

The Revival of Galactic Cosmic Ray Nucleosynthesis?

Because of the roughly linear correlation between Be/H and Fe/H in low metallicity halo stars, it has been argued that a “primary” component in the nucleosynthesis of Be must be present in addition to the “secondary” component from standard Galactic cosmic ray nucleosynthesis. In this paper we critically re-evaluate the evidence for the primary versus secondary character of Li, Be, and B evolut...

Isotopic Composition of Galactic Cosmic Ray Nuclei

Galactic cosmic rays represent a directly accessible sample of matter that originates outside the solar system, The elemental and isotopic composition of this sample of high-energy matter contains a record of nucleosynthesis in other regions of the galaxy, and of subsequent nuclear and electromagnetic interactions that have altered its composition. There have recently been significant new advan...
